About
A dalliance with fellow Sonic Flâneurs
The Story
Inspired by the need to have a palate that reached beyond the norm,
My Father’s Cravat develops plugins that sway, Champagne in hand, from the well-trodden path.
Indeed, the Gentleperson user, a Sonic Flâneur, can find much to add breadth to their tonal palette.
Cravat, the amplifier plugin for the discerning Gentleperson, goes much further than one would expect to achieve this. These aren’t models, but giddy interpretations of the topologies of amplifier structures.
Great attempts have been made to encourage the Sonic Flâneur to explore: microphones are described as Lemond Curd and Crumpets; loudspeaker cabinets as Tarquin and Barrington, and who could resist the temptation of an amplifer called Redsetter or Peacock?
Should a Gentleperson find themselves in need of a Plexi or some other such vulgarity, they would be better served looking elsewhere.
Philosophy
Everything that My Father’s Cravat creates must be architected with a misty eye to the past, and a furrowed brow towards the future. There must be value, mustered from experience, toil and Champagne, to offer canapes of sonic scrumminess.
- Craftsmanship If it doesn’t involve Champagne, polished shoes and a quick walk through Savile Row for inspiration, it won’t appear in My Father’s Cravat.
- Restraint There is a fine line between tastefulness and vulgarity. The sign of a true Sonic Flâneur is to find it and take one step over.
- Character Be ridiculous whenever one can. Modesty can be reserved for when you are dead. Curry favour, by imagining sounds like a walk along a river on a summer's day, rather than, cough, that sounds like a JTM45.
- Requests Requests will always be entertained, but the prospective Sonic Flâneur would do well to present their ideas in flowery terms. Ideas like ‘sound like drinking tea, while swallows flit past’, inspire; ‘Can you make a Tube Screamer’, will be ignored.
- Credits My Father’s Cravat uses Juce as a scaffold, the Juce community for inspiration, ChatGPT for images, and Claude 4.5 for tests and code reviews.
